Break-ups are one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. From the beginning of a relationship, we invest our time, energy, and emotions into building something special with someone. When that relationship falls apart, it can lead to painful feelings of sadness, rejection, and heartache. Whether it’s a mutual decision, or one person initiates the break-up, the pain is real, and the healing process can be long and difficult. One of the most difficult parts of a break-up is the feeling of rejection. It can make us doubt our self-worth and cause us to question what we did wrong. We go over every conversation, interaction, and memory to try and figure out where things went wrong. We ask ourselves if we were good enough, pretty or handsome enough, or if we had enough in common with our partner. These thoughts only add to the pain and can negatively affect our self-esteem.
